Dr.-Ing. Jörg Hahn
ESA Galileo Chief Engineer & Head of Galileo System Engineering Service
Jörg is a passionate system engineer and manager who has dedicated his entire career (since 1993) to the field of Satellite Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT). As the Head of Galileo System Engineering Service and Galileo Chief Engineer at the European Space Agency (in ESA since 2000), Jörg plays a central role in shaping ESA’s responsibilities as the PNT System Design Authority.
In this capacity, he is deeply involved in the design and development of the Galileo satellite navigation system, (end-to-end) contributing to its evolution as one of the world’s leading GNSS infrastructures. His work spans across multiple ESA initiatives, including Moonlight, LEO-PNT, Opstar and strategic corporate programs such as ESA Transformation.
He drives in major terms Knowledge Transfer activities such as ESA Academy Navigation Training Course, Galileo Master Class and contributies to ESA Space System Engineering training, ESA System Engineering Academy.
Jörg’s approach is highly transversal, integrating technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration. His expertise supports not only mission-critical system engineering but also broader innovation and organizational development within ESA.
🔍 Education
Jörg studied radio physics and electronics and obtained a MSc degree in physics and mathematics (1993, BSU Minsk, BY). In 1999 he obtained the Dr.-Ing. degree from Uni FAF, Munich-Neubiberg, DE.
